[Review] The Vision MIPS Climbing Helmet by Black Diamond

I’ve used the MIPS technology for the last couple of years in ski helmets and I’m excited to now be able to have MIPS working for me while I climb too. The Black Diamond Vision MIPS Helmet is not only lightweight, but you are also staying safe with MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System), and getting a perfect fit every time you throw the helmet on. The Vision MIPS is a combination of EPP foam, EPS foam, and ABS shell which all make up a durable yet lightweight helmet. While I have scratched the ABS shell, it should hold up to dents and dings well and has so far for me. The foam is also made to take some abuse and you can press into it and see that it won’t hold lasting marks or dents. Most notably, the Vision MIPS is so light while giving me ultimate protection. It’s the type of helmet that you throw on and forget you’re wearing it.

I went directly off of the size chart for the Vision MIPS sizing and it’s spot on. You can easily adjust the helmet to the perfect fit every time using the sliders at the back of the helmet. The chin strap is also easily adjustable. The venting throughout allows airflow on those really warm days but because of the adjustability, I’m still able to fit a small beanie underneath the Vision if it gets chilly or I’m ice climbing. One last mention is that the integrated headlight clips are nice because they are streamlined. You won’t get anything caught on them when they’re not in use.
