The 3/2mm Syncro Plus Chest Zip Wetsuit by Roxy was the perfect companion while learning to kiteboard in the Sea of Cortez over the last five weeks. Not only is Roxy’s F’n LITE Neoprene warm and comfortable, but it’s also lightweight and flexible. I never once felt bulky or like my movement was restricted even when I had gear piled on top of the wetsuit.
Adding to the warmth, the WarmFlight Far-infrared thermal lining works to transform body heat into usable warmth. On the interior of the suit, there are two thermal linings, one on the chest/core and one on the back. Not only do these thermal linings add to warmth, but they’re also very cozy and comfortable up against the skin. In addition, Roxy has built two thermal smoothies on the chest and back panels (exterior of suit) which help retain heat and also block the wind.
A favorite feature of mine is definitely the built-in Supratex knee pads. Not only do these knee pads help protect my knees but they are also protecting the wetsuit in high wear areas. The knee pads are durable but are not noticeable, heavy, or uncomfortable.
The seams throughout the Syncro Plus are high quality, well-developed, and ensure maximum warmth. On the exterior, seams are taped and unexposed. On the interior, seams are glued and blind stitched which leads to minimal water entry but heightened flexibility. Internal seams are also Liquid Flex Seal taped for leakage and comfort up against the skin. Overall, there has been a lot of work and thought to go into Roxy seams to ensure maximum comfort, minimal water entry, and zero restriction. You’ll also notice, on the interior seams, that seam intersections or ends are reinforced adding to longevity and durability of the wetsuit.
Roxy recommends a water temperature range of 56ºF – 64ºF for the 3/2 but it can definitely depend on the environment and personal preference. The water temperature in Baja was right around 70º and so while that was out of range for the 3/2, I was happy to have the warmth. I never felt hot out in or on the water and I never got cold. If you need something a little lighter or heavier, be sure to check out Roxy’s website as they have alternative thicknesses.
Lastly, I’ll mention that aside from how happy I was with the comfort, warmth, and performance of the Syncro Plus, it’s only a $210 wetsuit. If you’re just getting into a sport that requires a wetsuit like I was, you won’t have to invest a lot of money into the wetsuit while you’re either unsure you’re set on the sport or if you need to invest a bunch of money in other gear.
Whether you’re just getting into a water sport or are an experienced surfer, kiter or anything else, the Syncro Plus is a wetsuit I’d highly recommend. It’s warm, well-built, and extremely comfortable no matter what you’re doing.
