Layers like the Shelter Jacket by Orage are ones that I find myself using the most throughout the year. Not only is the Shelter Jacket comfortable and stylish, but it’s also extremely warm. Whether I wear it as a stand-alone piece or layer it up under a shell, it’s one that I wear for 3 seasons and many different activities.
The Shelter Jacket is filled with 300 grams of Orage’s Warm Synthetic Down. This proprietary insulation is warm, lightweight, and packable. It’s hard to explain but it feels like a very dense and warm insulation but without the bulk and weight. Synthetic insulation is also beneficial because if it gets wet, it won’t lose its warming properties. While this isn’t a waterproof jacket, it is treated with a DWR coating so in wet snow or light rain, you’ll be protected. If you’re going to be out all day in a downpour, I’d suggest throwing a waterproof shell over it.
I love the fit of the Shelter Jacket, especially because of the long drop-down hem in the back. It keeps my butt and legs warm when I’m just wearing leggings. I am consistently a size large in Orage outerwear and a size medium in their mid-layers. I’m 5’10 and 155 pounds.
Whether you’re looking for a super technical outer layer set for skiing in the backcountry, a warm and stylish jacket that you can wear around town during the winter months, or that layer to take camping to keep you warm with the sun goes down, Orage gear will keep you warm, comfortable, and protected.
