[Review] Westside Pant by Dakine

I know everyone is different, but I can say that this season Dakine has definitely hit it out of the park as far as sizing goes. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a pair of ski pants fit me as well as the Westside Pants did out of the box. There aren’t any cumbersome waist adjustments and it’s just fine because the waist on these is perfect. Aside from how well they fit, the Westside Pants by Dakine keep me dry on even the wettest days.

Up until a few days ago, I thought that the Westsides were made with a Gore-Tex membrane. To my surprise, they aren’t. They have kept me dry on some of the wettest days I’ve ever skied and so I guess I automatically assumed they had the ever-popular Gore-Tex technologies embedded throughout.

While the Westside Pants are not insulated, I can comfortably double up on my base layers if I need to (does anyone else do this?). I’m a fairly cold person and usually wear an insulated pant. For spring conditions, these are absolutely perfect! Of course, with the vents you can get some airflow if you need to.

Touching on the fit again, I like that these are a flattering shape and fit, but they are not overly tight making it impossible to ski. I still look like a girl when wearing these, which is cool. The length is perfect and sometimes I have to size up to an XL for length but not with the Westsides (I’m 5’10 and 150 pounds)!

The one complaint I have about these pants is the fact that the inner pant leg at the bottom is not reinforced. I always cut up this area because of my ski edges and I feel like if there was a tougher, more durable material reinforced there it wouldn’t happen.

Like I said with the Silcox jacket, I have many outer layers to choose from but I haven’t worn anything else since I got the Silcox/Westside combo.
