[Review] The Wolcott by Native Eyewear

When you’re mountain biking and you forget you’re wearing sunglasses, chances are you’ve found the perfect cycling glasses. This was the case when I threw on the Wolcott by Native, both on my home trails in Colorado and in Moab. Comfort, amazing clarity, and the ability to change lenses are a few of the things that have made the Wolcotts my new favorite cycling glasses.

The Green Reflex Lens surprised me the first time I put them on. Not only was the clarity incredible but I was heading out for a ride when snow was moving into the valley making for some low light circumstances. Of course, chances are that when you go mountain biking in Colorado, you will probably encounter at least 3 variable light conditions on any given ride. One minute it is sunny and bright, the next minute it is blustery cold, with blowing snow and rain. The Green Reflex Lens reacts in any situation and while it protects your eyes from the harshest of light, it provides amazing contrast of your surroundings.

For more reasons than one, the Wolcotts are an investment piece of gear in the fact that you can interchange the lenses. If I had the choice between sunglasses that were $150 that I could change the lenses on and sunglasses that were $150 and the lenses couldn’t be swapped, I don’t think I’d even question what my choice would be. If you break, scratch, or lose a lens, instead of buying entirely new sunglasses, all you have to do is replace the lenses.

The lenses are super easy to change and while I love the Green Reflex, I also have a nearly clear lens for really low light conditions or even night riding.

While the Wolcotts are relatively lightweight, they still feel like high quality sunglasses when I hold them in my hand. The Rhyno-Tuff Air frames built from a high-performance thermoplastic material is what gives the Wolcotts the lightweight yet super durable properties, made to withstand even the worst crashes when you’re hauling downhill.

The integrated Mastoid Temple Grip and Temple Boots are a benefit because they keep the sunglasses from drooping down off your face or moving around annoyingly when you’re riding. I have noticed, however, that it makes the frame a little bit thick behind my ear. The only time I notice it is when I have a layer on under my helmet for extra warmth. Other than that, it’s nice to not have to constantly be pushing my sunglasses back to where they need to be for ultimate comfort.

If you’re in the market for some affordable, comfortable, and not over-the-top athletic appearing sunglasses, the Wolcotts would be a great choice to look into. Between athletic eyewear and stylish lifestyle lines, check out Native Eyewear to enhance your look and your view.
