The Weatherby Jacket by Dakine has everything that you’d want in a jacket and more but at a very affordable and approachable price. Not only will it keep you warm in dry no matter what kind of conditions you find yourself in, it’s also very much a statement piece. The textured Waxed Ottoman is durable and stands out in the crowd.
Having insulation in a ski jacket is very important to me and the PrimaLoft® Black Eco Insulation (60g body and 40g sleeve) takes the edge off on those extremely cold days. Along with insulation, you are also protected by 10,000mm waterproofing which has proven to be an outstanding membrane as it has kept me dry in full on rain storms.
Whether you’re skiing in the park, slaying pow at the resort, or earning your turns in the backcountry, the Weatherby can easily adapt to any situation. The underarm vents help you regulate your temperature and there’s a nice inside mesh pocket perfect for an extra pair of mitts or your goggles on the skin up. There’s also an inner media pocket that will secure your media device as well as two outer hand pockets that are perfect for a granola bar or GoPro.
I really like the fit of the Weatherby Jacket. Dakine classifies it as “room to layer” and I couldn’t agree more. You can definitely fit any sorts of layers you prefer under the Weatherby and it’s also a longer, baggier fit – thuggish ruggish – as I like to call it but I think it looks good when you’re skiing.
It’s hard for me to complain about this jacket not having gussets on the wrists because when I broke my hand, the Weatherby was literally the only jacket I could wear because it fit over my cast. It was a major lifesaver for that and maybe it was meant to be.
I just love the look of this jacket and it is as warm and dry as some of my more “higher end” jackets and it only costs $200. It seems like such a steal to me. Not only is the Weatherby comfortable and cute, it’s highly functional with it’s waterproofing, durability, and insulating powers! If you are looking to find a jacket that will exceed your expectations for the season, look no further than the Weatherby Jacket by Dakine. I have it paired with the Mackenzie Bib by Dakine and it is the full meal deal. I’ve also been wearing (and LOVING) the Galaxy Gore-Tex Mitts by Dakine so be sure to check that review as well.
