What I thought to be a simple shell has proven otherwise. The Vapor Gore-Tex 2L Jacket by Dakine will keep you dry (in and out, more on that later), protected from the elements, and looking stylish. I’ve grown fond of the Dakine fit over the last few years and while I’ll admit it took some getting used to, now I love it.
One of my favorite features of the Vapor Jacket is the premium Quick Dry lining that “enhances breathability and controls odors” (dakine.com). Especially when I’m skiing new places I can sometimes have a hard time choosing the right layers to wear. At times I’ll get really hot on the ski down but then freeze on the lift ride up. If I start sweating the Quick Dry lining helps me to not get too wet for too long so that cold shock on the lift ride is much less of a shock.
I’ve realized over the past two seasons that Dakine Jackets have everything that you need and nothing that you don’t. They’re highly functional, performance pieces of gear that I would trust on long trips where having the right gear is key. The Gore-Tex layer really ensures you’ll stay dry no matter what conditions you find yourself skiing or riding in.
The Vapor Jacket is considered a “long and trim” fit and I’m about 6 feet tall and weigh 200 pounds. The large fits me well and like I said, it’s a little trimmer of a fit than I’m used to but I really don’t notice that out on the hill. I love the bit of extra length, adding to protection from the elements on those frigid storm days. If you prefer this jacket but want a looser fit, I would size up one size.
You have all pocket options covered with the Vapor Jacket, including a pass pocket, two hand cargo pockets, two hand zip pockets and an outside-accessible media pocket with a pass through for headphones. I really love the outside accessible media pocket because to reach my phone on super stormy days I don’t have to unzip the entire jacket to get to my phone (that will make you cold and wet!).
I have the Vapor Jacket paired with Dakine’s Meridian Pant and not only do they look good together, it’s an affordable kit that is sure to keep you dry. Simple design, trusted Gore-Tex, and a breathable liner will keep you pow huntin’ all season long in the Vapor Jacket.
