After trying some of Native’s sunglasses for cycling, we knew we needed to try out their goggles for skiing. We feel as though with all of their products, whether sun or snow, they use high quality materials and have a strong attention to detail. If you’re looking for a medium fit goggle that will let you see clearly on sunny days or grey days, look no further than the Upslope. The frame shape is a bit more rounded than some of their other goggles, but it fits well with a helmet and has a great range of view.
I chose the United with Green Mirror Lens color-way because the lens option was unlike anything I have. I’m constantly on the search for a perfect low light goggle and these came pretty close, especially with the ability to change lenses (plus they come with a low light clear lens). The lens is pretty easy to swap out so you can quickly prepare for the light conditions of the day.
Probably one of my favorite things about the Upslopes is that they come with a hard case and a soft case. The hard case is key in protecting these goggles when they’re not on my face. I’m not sure why more companies aren’t doing this but it is really nice to have. I know that my Upslopes will stay in great condition for a long time to come because of this storage option.
I have worn these both on the skin track and on a snowmobile and haven’t had horrible fogging issues with them. One thing that is a little bit annoying is that Native’s lenses have a coating on the inside of the lens so if you happen to fall and fill your goggles with snow or if they get real foggy on the inside, you can’t simply wipe them out. If you wipe the inside of the lens you will scratch it. I feel like in emergency situations, I always fall back on wiping out the lens and trying to start clean. With these, you don’t have that option so you have to wait it out while they (hopefully) dry out.
I feel it’s worth mentioning that the first time I wore these goggles was on a snowmobile with a full face helmet. Full face helmets and a pair of goggles can be a tricky combination to dial in but these fit perfectly! The design of the strap and frame connection really allows for the goggles to fit around a large helmet but still stay close up against my face. I was really impressed that these worked so well in such harsh conditions on my full face helmet. For skiing, they fit really well underneath my helmet and would be compatible with the over the helmet style too.
For $129 you are getting a really solid goggle with lens change options (includes an extra lens) hard case, and soft case and I feel like that is a very fair price for the package. With the Native name, you know you are getting a high quality product plus they have a lifetime warranty (see the fine print). If you’re looking for a different style or goggle, be sure to check out Tyson’s Tenmile review. Another sweet pair of goggles with a photochromic lens that will automatically adjust to the conditions!
