[Review] The Short Stack Helmet by Shred

Before the Short Stack Helmet by Shred, I thought that most helmets were made the same. I was a bit taken back when I threw on the Short Stack and realized that in fact, not all helmets are made the same. Aside from Shred’s amazing protection technologies that they’ve developed, the Short Stack is comfortable, easy to adjust, and well vented.

The weight and feel were two of the first things I noticed when I wore it for the first time. I never feel as though the Short Stack conflicts with my range of visibility and there are times when you will feel as though you forgot your helmet. It’s unobtrusive in more ways than one and only after switching from my old helmet to this one, I realized that helmets don’t have to be in your sight at all times.

The second noticeable difference about the Short Stack is the venting. There are exactly 20 vents throughout keeping your head cool and body temperature regulated on those especially hot days.

One feature of the Short Stack that ultimately does not matter but kind of does is the look. It’s a super stylish helmet that keeps you looking cool while staying protected. I love the woodland green complete with pink accenting.

Perhaps my favorite feature on the Short stack is the easy to use adjustable dial fit system. I don’t know about you but if I don’t have both hands on the steering wheel (mostly when mountain biking single track) I have a hard time staying upright. With this easy to use system, I can get the perfect fit with one hand and it is quick too, eliminating my chances of loosing all of my balance. Sometimes when I get angry biking my head expands a little bit and so all I have to do to relieve the pressure is click the dial a couple of times.

The technology that Shred is putting into their protection gear is unmatched in both it’s performance, durability, and structure. The Patented Honeycomb cone structure helps to “dissipate impact energy into multiple directions” (Shredoptics.com). This is one of 3 major technologies that Shred is utilizing to keep your head safe and happy in situations of impact. Not only are they combining a high standard of protection technologies into the Short Stack to keep you safe, they are doing so without weighing you down.

Whether you’re a hard charging cyclist or someone like myself, just out there pedaling around not really sure of what I’m doing (all the more important to have protection), the Short Stack is an amazing helmet that will keep you well ventilated, extremely protected, and looking good too.
