The Sensation Pants by Helly Hansen are not only a great option for those looking to have comfortable, warm, and dry pants for resort skiing, they are also very affordable! While they are seemingly simple, there are a few things that I love about the Sensation pant.
The Primaloft insulation throughout is going to keep your kickers going all day without having to stop and warm up in the lodge while your friends keep lapping their favorite pow stash. The waterproofing ensures you won’t get wet underneath but the Sensation Pants are also breathable. So, if you do get wet underneath (ie. sweat) it won’t last for long as the materials will allow the moisture to move away from your skin.
If you’re hiking the park and start to get real hot, the thigh vents will allow you to cool down and do so quickly. I’ve never seen vents like these. It’s genius because it actually allows air through (so many pants I have have vents but the mesh is so thick air doesn’t really travel through it).
I’m not sure if anyone really puts anything in their pockets of their ski pants, but I’ve never used a pocket on ski pants unless it was a cargo style pocket. Do people really put things in the back pockets of ski pants? I don’t. That’s why I’m happy to see that Helly didn’t even bother putting pockets on the butt of the Sensation Pant. Now I don’t have to worry about painfully landing/sitting on a zipper on my butt. The cargo pocket on these pants is sweet. The gussets allow it to expand away from your thigh so if you cram it full of stuff, there is room for expansion instead of digging into your thigh. It’s just a simple snap closure but it’s perfect for a Buff or Clif Bar.
The fit of the Sensation Pant is nice and I love the length. Sometimes I really have to size up with ski pants so that I can get the right length. With these, you have plenty of length. In the waist, there are adjustable tabs so you can get a precise fit in just a few seconds.
The one and only complaint I have about the Sensation pant is that there are no protective cuffs on the inner ankles. Without a protective cuff, I find that I really tear up the bottom of my pants from falling/hitting my ski edges along my pant edges.
If you’re looking for an affordable ski pant that will keep you warm and dry and fit like a dream, look no further than the Sensation Pant. Paired perfectly with the Helly Hansen Powderqueen jacket, you will stay warm while finding the best pow and you’ll look good too!
