[Review] The Helly Hansen Warm Pant

If you’re looking for a base layer that will work with you, not against you, look no further than the Helly Hansen Warm Pant. With the Warm Pant you are getting a mix of merino wool and Helly Hansen’s Lifa Stay Dry Technology. What that means is that not only is this base layer keeping you warm, it is also keeping you dry for the entire day.

The Merino wool exterior is going to give you superb insulating capabilities and a natural wicking ability, not to mention extreme softness to the touch. While the Merino is doing it’s job on the exterior, Helly’s Lifa technology is doing it’s job next to your skin. The Lifa Stay Dry works to constantly pull the moisture away from your skin so that you won’t stay wet and get cold.

While I wear these for both backcountry skiing and resort skiing, they are extremely beneficial in the backcountry when I’m working harder for longer. I’m usually sweating on the way up and then cold on the way down because of my sweat staying next to my skin. Now with the Lifa Stay Dry, I’m no longer wet enough at the top to get cold on the way down.

Skiing warmer winter days are definitely more doable with the Warm Pant with the wicking capabilities. I noticed today that I was sweating on the hill but by the time I got to the car and stripped down, my base layers were already dry to the touch.

The fit is super comfortable and not too tight. Since I’m a tele skier…you know, always dropping my knee… I kind of have larger thighs. A lot of my base layers fit really well in the waist and calf, but the thighs are way too tight. With the Warm Pant I have plenty of room. The waistband is not irritating at all which is a huge bonus for me. Some of the most comfortable layers I own have the most uncomfortable tags, which just has never made any sense to me. Not with these, thanks to Helly Hansen.

The Warm Pant by Helly Hansen will be with you on the way up and not disappoint on the way down, keeping you dry and warm and all sorts of comfortable. They pair well with the Helly Hansen Dry Performance Crew top, which also employs the Lifa Stay Dry technology. Throw these on under the Elevation Shell and Wasatch Pant and you’ll have the full meal-deal. You’ll be the best looking, warmest, and driest man on the mountain.
