[Review] The Doom Goggles by Spy Optic

The Doom goggles by Spy are like the perfect woman: they look good, feel good, make you happy, are easy to undress and all of your friends want ‘em. Packed with great features, the Dooms most notably include Spy’s Lock Steady™ technology making it super easy to change the lenses. Combined with Spy’s Happy Lens, these have become my favorite goggles whether I’m in the backcountry or lapping the park at the resort.

The Lock Steady™ lens change system on the Dooms is by far the easiest interchangeable goggle I’ve ever had my hands on. I love how easy it is to change lenses, as it is a process that I normally dread. Equipped with Spy’s Happy Lenses, you are guaranteed to have a good time when you’re out on the hill. They boost your mood and your view, as contrast and colors pop.

The shape and fit of the Doom goggle is perfect for my face, which I would classify as large, and the foam makes for an extremely comfortable all day fit. The Isotron face foam doesn’t collect moisture so on warmer days, your sweat won’t collect around your goggles. This used to happen to me when I was a kid and it would get so itchy and uncomfortable.

The Doom’s fit really well with a helmet, whether you wear your helmet over or under your goggles, there is plenty of adjustment for a precise fit. The strap has a silicone strip throughout so that the goggles don’t slip around on your head.

The venting on the Doom’s helps to keep your face cooler, which in turn helps with fogging issues. I’ve not had these fog up on me under variable circumstances and in comparable situations with other goggles, I have had fogging. The venting, combined with anti-fog coating have proven to me that they are at a high standard. In many situations, fogging is hard to avoid but overall I’ve been impressed! The one downside of the venting that I’ve found is that on colder/windier days when I’m cruising quickly down a groomer I do feel a draft that sometimes makes my eyeballs water.

I’m excited that I have a new go-to goggle that not only is extremely comfortable to wear, it is stylish too. The shape of the frame is great to wear with helmets and doesn’t impair your peripheral vision! Never again will you dread changing your lenses to the appropriate lens because the Lock Steady™ system is so fast and easy. If you have a smaller face, be sure to check out the Bravo by Spy.
