I love the style of the Deal Jacket by Orage, with the boyfriend fit and the two-color scheme, but most importantly this jacket has held up to days of abuse. Whether I’m falling in the park or falling on a powder day, the material used for the Deal Jacket is tough.
The crazy thing to me about this jacket is that although it is not insulated, it is heavier than a shell so perfect for most days. The versatility of the Deal jacket makes it a perfect one-quiver piece, with pit zips for the warm days but plenty of protection for frigid and stormy weather. The storm flap over the zipper is super beneficial, but not cumbersome as it stops short of the collar. Speaking of the collar, Orage has hit this one on the head! I ski with my collar up for protection from either the sun or snow. I always have such a hard time finding a jacket with a comfortable collar zone. Not only is the collar plenty big on the Deal jacket, there are snaps that allow it to increase in size even more.
The pockets on the Deal jacket are another point that I have to mention, as I always am baffled by the lack of pockets on some pieces these days. The front pockets are two in ones and have a simple snap closure on the top but also a side access pocket with a zipper closure. I love being able to slip my facemask into one pocket but then having my pass and car keys in accessible yet secure pockets. The inside media pocket is nice too, although it doesn’t have a hole for headphones. I still use it, just zip the zipper up to the headphones and that has seemed to work well for me.
I’m not a huge fan or beneficiary of powder skirts but the Deal does have one if that’s what you are into. When I do use them, I like them to snap to my pants. This is just a simple pow skirt that tightens but does not snap to your pants. If I used powder skirts more often I’d be bummed about this fact but like I said, I don’t use them enough to think about it.
Speaking of pow, there are tight cuffs for your arms, with a thumbhole for when you really get into the gnar. Again, I’m not a user of thumbholes, but the cuffs are nice to pull into my gloves or mittens to keep the gnar out of your arms.
I’ve been impressed with not only the style and design of Orage’s gear but also their support system. Incidentally, I had a huge crotch blow out in my pants (probably because my legs did the splits mid-air). I wasn’t sure it was from a fall I had, but it only made sense. Even with a hole in the crotch (it didn’t go through the outerlayer, just the inner layers), my crotch stayed warm on chilly days. I thought for sure I’d notice a cold draft. Anyways, Orage was really great to work with on the defective crotch and now I have a closed crotch again.
Check out Orage’s line of ski gear. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have a hard time deciding on just one jacket because they all look so inviting. The comfortable fit, strategically built features, and look with keep you coming back for more.
