[Review] Symmetry Series Clear Case for iPhone X by OtterBox

I’ve never understood the type of people who purchase $800-$1200 phones and don’t put them in a case. When I first got my new iPhone X I didn’t have a case for it and I only let it grace my butter fingers if there was no risk of dropping it on a hard surface. My phone was finally able to live a normal and appreciated life when I got the Otterbox Symmetry Case. Not only is this case slim, it doesn’t take away from the look of the iPhone and also protects against damage from dropping your phone.

Most importantly, the Symmetry Case protects against the unfortunate event of your phone hitting the ground. OtterBox stands behind their technology with the OtterBox Certified Drop+ Protection standard. You can go online and purchase a “drop proof” phone case for $8 but you can assume that the producers of said case haven’t really confirmed that it will protect your phone. OtterBox tests their technology through a rigorous regimen of 24+ tests and 238+ hours of testing. I don’t have a strong desire to drop test my phone but I have definitely dropped it on softer surfaces and it’s been fine (wood floors and carpet but not concrete, yet).

Something that’s not exactly marketed with the Symmetry Case is the protection it adds to the camera lens of the iPhone X. I’m not exactly sure what they were thinking at Apple when they designed the X, as the lens is raised more so than the rest of the phone. Anytime you would set your phone down, the lens would be the part to touch the surface. I mean, I’m not making millions working for Apple but I would’ve tried a little bit harder to protect the camera. Luckily for me with the Symmetry Case I don’t even have to worry about it anymore. The case is raised enough so the camera won’t even hit the surface that it’s sitting on. Huge bonus!!

One thing that I have noticed about the Symmetry Case is that it scratches fairly easily. It doesn’t bother me at all because I’m more worried about scratching my phone but I think it’s worth mentioning. I definitely use and abuse my phone in the outdoors and find myself putting it down on rough surfaces often. Over time, the scratches could become more noticeable and clouded but like I said it really doesn’t bother me.

The Symmetry Case is super slim for the protection that it offers and it doesn’t take away from the look of the iPhone. I like that it’s clear and unobtrusive. It’s raised beveled edges also help to protect the touchscreen. I have paired this case with a glass protector on my screen to avoid scratching the glass. It works really well for me and even though I don’t want to drop my phone, I know that if it happens it will be protected (I will be sure to update this review if I ever experience a full on blow with the Symmetry Case).

I would suggest this case in a heartbeat to any of my friends and for $40, I really don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want to protect their cell phone with OtterBox drop protection. If you’re like me and you have a tendency to experience butter fingers when you get something expensive in your hands, check out OtterBox and all of the protection they offer! Now if only I could have some protection for my face – does that ever happen to anyone else? Like, you’re lying in bed just minding your business doing your nightly Instagram scroll and BAM all of a sudden your phone hits your nose.
