Our life used to be consumed by straps. With four motorcycles, bicycles, camping gear, miscellaneous gear, and tools, the 14×8 space that we call our garage gets filled up very fast. Not only does it get filled up, it gets very disorganized. When we moved out to Minnesota for the summer, we took all of the previously listed items and the motorcycles were strapped down (6 straps per moto) and the garage became such a mess because of the situation of the motorcycles. We couldn’t simply strap the motorcycles down and go. They had to go in at an angle because of the location of the floor tie-downs. We could not access the living quarters from the garage and in order to get into the garage, we had to crawl over gear.
After stopping multiple times along the drive to check on the motorcycles we finally made it to Minnesota. Luckily, we didn’t have any big damage when one motorcycle bounced loose and fell over. The trailer walls checked out ok but my KTM 640 had blown fork seals. Not to mention that once we started unpacking it took two people and about three hours to unstrap and unpack the motos. And we were left with a mess of straps to clean up. We were ready to figure something out.
After ample research, Tyson found the company Pit Bull. He at first discounted the company because their website seems to market primarily street bikes. We were also looking for something that we could use on both the Adventures and the dirt bikes. All it took was a quick email to the company and we were told that it should be possible to make the trailer restraints work for all four bikes. We were so excited.
The Pit Bull trailer restraints are $290. They are definitely an investment but well worth the money for a multitude of reasons. First of all, if you have an expensive bike that you place inside an expensive trailer, it makes sense to ensure the security of the motorcycle. We were so uneasy driving to Minnesota because we understood that it wouldn’t take much for straps to loosen and motos to fall over.
Pit Bull Trailer Restraints do not put any pressure on shocks or forks providing protection to the fullest potential which resonates with those of you that may have really expensive motorcycles. Regardless of the cost of one’s motorcycle, I would think that one would do everything in one’s power to keep the repair expenses as low as possible. We are not transporting the most expensive motorcycles out there however, we like to take care of what we have and ensure a long and healthy life for the motos.
One feature of the Pit Bull Restraints is the idea that installing this product is super easy and can be accomplished with a drill and some wrenches. All you have to do is drill four holes, ensuring that the motorcycle will fit and line up with the trailer restraint plate, and tighten bolts and you’re ready to use them. Let’s just say you’re a little bit like us and a lot of “projects” get done the last minute. If you have a trip upcoming, these are simple enough that you could install them the day before your departure and you’d be ready to go.
That leads me to my next point… The Pit Bull Trailer Restraints cut down immensely on loading and unloading time. They are fast and easy and can be done by one person.
Overall, Tyson and I can’t say enough great words about Pit Bull’s customer service, quality products, and design. Pit Bull Products are even made here in the USA which is an added bonus! We are beyond impressed with the Pit Bull Trailer Restraints and would recommend them to anyone and everyone who transports a motorcycle.
We made three extensive videos that we highly recommend you watch if you are at all interested in these trailer restraints. There is a general review, an installation video, and a video on how the restraints actually work. We hope that we have been helpful in providing you with information on Pit Bull!
