[Review] Pakpod Adventure Tripod

Whether you’re shooting sunset time-lapses over the water with your GoPro, getting a long exposure shot of the stars in the country with your DSLR, or traveling with your family with a small point-and-shoot camera, the Pakpod will help you get any shot, anywhere.  The versatility of the Pakpod makes it an amazing travel companion and it won’t weigh you down. It weighs less than a pound and compacts nicely.  It even stashes easily in my daily purse!

The Pakpod is so quick and easy to set up, so if you get to the beach 2 minutes before the perfect light is ending, you won’t miss out.  With the twist of the top knob, lock the independent legs in any position or angle. This is probably my favorite feature of the Pakpod.

The Pakpod is uniquely versatile, not only with the legs locking in at any angle and the stakes on the feet, but the fact that it has 36 tie down points.  If for some reason you can’t get the pakpod where you want it with it’s feet, you can easily tie-down using the tie-down points.  If you are shooting long exposures or time-lapses, it’s really easy to secure your tripod and camera so you wont have any issues with wind/dogs/weather/etc.

The legs of the Pakpod extend with the press of a button, and also lock into any position/length that you prefer.  The overall length with the legs extended fully comes in at just under 18 inches.  Some people may look at this length, and the tripod in a whole, and think that it’s far too short or small.  But you can easily secure or position the tripod to anything, anywhere so you can get the perfect height and angle.

With the legs retracted and set at 45°, the load capacity of the Pakpod is 11 lbs.  This is by far enough of a capacity for most anything that I’m shooting with on a daily basis.  I feel like it is very stout with a DSLR attached and of course hardly notices a GoPro or my Sony A6000.

The Pakpod is made with High Impact ABS plastic so it is sure to stand up to abuse. Not only does this full-ABS design give the Pakpod it’s lightweight properties, it is also completely waterproof/freezeproof.  Take this with you weather you’re going high into the backcountry in the winter or deep into the ocean for a dive.  Salt water won’t turn your shine into rust, because all the hardware used is stainless steal.

One aspect that I’ve found to be challenging to adjust to is that you cannot adjust the camera angle up and down.  I think the main reason that this has been a challenge for me is because the tripod I have been using for the last few years has a ball head.  With that, I’ve gotten very lazy with my tripod set up and adjust with the simple and quick ball head.

Once you try out the Pakpod, you’ll realize all the ways in which you will be grateful you have it.  If you’re like me, it’s the perfect tripod for traveling.  I don’t use a tripod often when traveling and have a hard time justifying taking up valuable suitcase space for a tripod I may only use 3 or 4 times.  Now I no longer have the issue because this tripod is the size of a pair of my jeans rolled up!  Check out Pakpod, you won’t be disappointed! I should mention this is the first Pakpod.  With all that is amazing with this one, I can’t wait to see what they come out with next!
