If you’re looking for an extremely durable pant for all of your skiing adventures, look no further than the Wasatch Shell Pant by Helly Hansen (but don’t forget to check out the Elevation Shell Jacket to pair them with). These pants are literally bombproof and I have yet to slit the cuffs with my ski edge like I have with EVERY other ski pant I own.
The fabric is as durable as a tank (in fabric form) and couldn’t rip or tear if you tried. Not only are they perfect to withstand the abuse from my ski edges, in the backcountry they are sure to hold up to anything I rub up against.
Aside from these pants being extremely stylish, they are super comfortable and nice fitting. The waist adds to the comfort level, as it is a wide waste band so it doesn’t awkwardly cut into your skin when you’re sitting or moving. The band is also highly adjustable and the adjuster pulls, much like the cuffs on the Elevation shell, are oversized and easy to grab with mittens or gloves.
Fully seam sealed, DWR treated, complete with wind proofing and waterproofing will ensure you’ll stay dry and warm in even the wettest of conditions. If it’s warm or if you’re in the backcountry working, you can keep your temperature regulated with your inner thigh venting zippers.
Small and simple features usually make a big difference in my judgment of gear. For these pants, I love that there is some security for the pant closure. I will say, I have come unbuttoned/unzipped on some falls and it is not pleasant for me or those who I am skiing with. With a button, zipper, and metal clasp, there’s no way these things are coming apart. On top of that, the silicone gripper on the cuff of the legs is incredible for keeping your legs dry and warm.
Overall, the amazing durability of these pants combined with simple yet integral features, have made the Wasatch Shell Pants, complete with the Elevation Shell Jacket, my absolute favorite thing to ski in. The bright colors will ensure you won’t get separated from the group, even if you want to, and the durability of the material will keep your pants looking fresh even on season 3 or 4.
