The Billet Rack by Perun for the KTM 790/890 is sleek and simple yet incredibly versatile. It’s perfect for short adventures or long and you shouldn’t ever find yourself wishing the Perun Rack has a spot for something that’s not already there. We were lucky enough to try out both the Large version and the Small version. They’re both fantastic for different applications, but if you’re going to run the Tail Tidy kit, the Small is perfect and looks bada**.
If you find yourself heading out on more packed-down adventures, you may prefer the large rack. It really is a personal preference and hopefully, this video gives you an idea of what rack is perfect for you.
Aside from size, the large and small are very similar in features and how they’re built. All edges are rounded which is extremely important for tie-down points. You do not want sharp edges where you are strapping your gear to as this could chafe and potentially ruin your straps over time. In addition to many tie-down points, there are also predrilled holes for a number of different accessories. Be sure to check out the Perun website to see what kind of systems you can adapt to your Perun rack without having to drill.
For us, it’s the perfect system to tie down our Mosko Moto Reckless 80. These racks are very adaptable to the positioning of your luggage system. We prefer to position our R80 about halfway on the seat and half on the rack just to keep the weight forward a bit. We don’t need the second seat. The options on the Perun Billet Rack are awesome and we can easily move forward or back if needed.
On the Perun Racks, bolts are recessed so that bolt heads won’t chafe on luggage (or whatever else you may have strapped down). Be wary of racks that do not have flush bolt heads!! Over time they will absolutely rub holes in whatever you have mounted.
That brings up another important point! Both the large and small Billet Racks sit flush with the stock seat. Again, very important especially if you are using a system like the Reckless 80.
Overall the fit and finish of these racks are really nice. Function aside, the Perun Racks look amazing and are a huge improvement over the stock racks. There is literally not even a place on the stock racks to tie anything down! This is an affordable and easy fix to make your motorcycles rear-end super functional, light and tight looking, and adaptable for any adventure.
