[Review] The Zoe Jacket by Orage

If you’re like me and you wear insulated jackets on even mild days, the Zoe Insulated Jacket by Orage should be one to check out. Not only is the Zoe Jacket super warm, it’s also built with Orage’s Prime10 fabric which means it’s waterproof, breathable, and durable. This jacket is built for even the coldest of days and won’t let you down when the snow’s falling.

The insulation throughout is Orage’s WarmSi synthetic insulation which is made to be extremely warm for its weight. It’s a synthetic down which, beneficially so, can get wet yet still hold its warming capabilities. For being as insulated as the Zoe Jacket is, 100g body and 80g sleeves, it’s a surprisingly lightweight jacket. There are some insulated jackets that I would not take into the backcountry because they will ultimately weigh my pack down but this isn’t one of those. I can easily throw the Zoe Jacket in my backpack, skin up, and have not only a warm piece to throw on at the top, but also something that is going to stay dry no matter the conditions.

The Zoe Jacket fit also adds to the overall warmth of the layer. It’s a little bit longer and paired with bibs (The Cliff Shell Bibs!) makes for a weatherproof system. I’m a size large for Orage outerwear and I’m 5’10 and 155 pounds. The length in the arms and torso is ideal and it’ easy to layer under if I need it (hello, Phoenix Layering System).

I’m not a huge fan of the fact that there are no pit zips. For me, even on my insulated pieces, I really like to have the option of airflow if I need it. On really cold days, if I start hiking inbounds, I can overheat quickly. Having the ability to get some airflow going early before I start sweating is imperative to keep me dry and warm for the entire day. They’re pretty important in my opinion so I was bummed that they’re not included on the Zoe Jacket.

The hood easily fits over any helmet you may have on and can also adjust down so it doesn’t fall if your face if you don’t have a helmet on. Multiple adjustment points keep the hood exactly where you want it every time.

If you run cold and need a little bit of insulation to take the edge off, check out the Zoe Jacket by Orage. It’s lightweight, warm, durable and nice fitting. The Zoe Jacket pairs perfectly with the Cliff Shell Bibs and, if you’re really cold, the Phoenix Layering System!
