Nightfall can be a bittersweet time when you’re out camping. Of course, it’s so enjoyable when the fire gets going and the stars start to overcome the view but for us, it can also be a stressful time. Hank likes to often wander out into the desert or woods and we can lose track of him. You’re probably thinking “you guys should just tie your dog up” and while that’s a valid point, we don’t really love to do that. He usually wanders right back into camp after he’s found some wood to chew on or a bone to bury, or when something makes a weird noise and he gets scared.
Thanks to Nite Ize, we can now always have eyes on Hank even on the darkest of nights. Once the sun goes down, we put the NiteHowl Safety Necklace and the SpotLit XL on Hank. It may be a little overkill to have both of these on Hank and he kind of looks like a lil party on the move but we’d rather be safe than sorry. Even if we’re heading out on walks in the neighborhood in the evening, we’ll throw his Nite Ize gear on him for extra visibility.
The NiteHowl Safety Necklace is amazing as it gives us a 360° view of Hank. The NiteHowl comes as a cut-to-fit size from 12” to 27.” It can fit a wide range of dogs and is super easy to just cut off the extra material. You can choose from three colors – red, green, or blue – or for an extra party, the Disc-O mode, which blends the colors to what we call a party pattern.
We love that the NiteHowl is rechargeable. It lasts for about five and half hours on one charge – which is a few nights of camping for us at least. Once it needs a charge you just plug it in to any Micro USB cord.
Both the NiteHowl and SpotLit are weather resistant. We don’t let Hank swim with them on but if we find ourselves out in the rain or the occasional puddle or creek crossing, we know his gear will be ok.
The SpotLit XL is new and improved by Nite Ize for a few reasons. First of all, the SpotLit is rechargeable like the NiteHowl. Simply plug it into a Micro USB when it needs a charge. We rarely feel like we plug the SpotLit in. It runs for about 10 hours between charges and only takes about an hour and a half to recharge.
The SpotLit attaches to Hank’s collar super easily with the integrated and secure stainless steel carabiner clip. It’s a push button on/off and you can select four different solid colors (green, red, blue, white) and again the color changing Disc-O mode. We like to put Hank’s NiteHowl on Disc-O and the SpotLit on Disc-O and let people enjoy the light show.
While the SpotLit is an awesome tool for safety for Hank, we prefer the NiteHowl (ultimately we prefer he wears both) because it offers a 360° view of Hank. Sometimes if he just has the SpotLit on, if he’s facing away from us, we can’t see him super well.
With both of these products by Nite Ize, we can ensure Hank is safe and visible no matter where he’s wandering. Even if you don’t find yourself out camping with your dog, having a SpotLit or NiteHowl or both for walks in the evening is a smart idea! Whenever Hank walks in with his Nite Ize gear on, many of his friends are jealous of his visibility.
