[Review] The Lifaloft Hybrid Insulator Jacket by Helly Hansen

Living in Colorado without a mid-layer like the Lifaloft Hybrid Insulator Jacket by Helly Hansen is like having a birthday party without cake. It’s plain silly and something we wouldn’t recommend. Not only is the Lifaloft Hybrid Jacket perfect for layering, but it’s also an amazing stand-alone piece in the shoulder seasons. This is truly a four-season piece and something you’ll reach for very often. It’s a combination of soft, flexible fleece and Helly’s Lifaloft insulation. You’re truly getting the best of both worlds.

Both Cally and I have really taken a liking to Helly Hansen’s Lifaloft insulation. It’s a lightweight, packable, and warm synthetic insulation. It’s no big deal if it gets wet, it will continue to insulate. For traveling, Lifaloft is perfect and it packs down small.

The exterior of the Lifaloft Hybrid Jacket is water-resistant and windproof and is treated with a DWR coating. While you may get wet in a full-on downpour, light rain and wet snow will have nothing on this layer. It’s perfect for backcountry skiing because I can wear it on the skin track up (even if it’s snowing) and I don’t get too hot or too cold and am not worrying about getting wet through my mid-layer.

If you need a mid-layer that can keep up with your adventures no matter the terrain or weather, check out the Lifaloft Hybrid Insulator Jacket by Helly Hansen. You’ll use it all four seasons whether you’re skiing deep pow in the rocky mountains, ice climbing, paragliding at Point of the Mountain, or romping around the desert in the spring.
