[Review] The Stow Away Jacket by Klim

If you need four-season protection from wet elements – no matter what outdoor activity you’re pursuing – the Stow Away Jacket by Klim is a good one to keep in your pack. Personally, I wanted something that I could fit over my dirt bike riding gear and keep with me on the bike for riding in CO where it can be sunny one minute and pouring rain the next. I needed something that was both comfortable and would keep me dry no matter what. Not only is the Stow Away Jacket built with Gore-Tex (guaranteed to keep you dry) it feels good on and won’t restrict your riding or movement.

This jacket is nimble and soft when you put it on but is ready to fight hard conditions. It’s durable enough that it will hold up to branch whips but if you take a hard enough digger in the rocks, there could be a potential for rippage. I have yet to see any scuffs and I’m not the most upright rider if you know what I mean.

What really drew me into the Stow Away Jacket is – ironically – the fact that it stows away into it’s own pocket. I like the idea of having a nice little waterproof package tucked into my pack. I don’t have to think about it – I just know it’s there when I need it. There is also a shock cord that you could use to potentially attach this jacket to something/somewhere.

The interior of the Stow Away is lined with a mesh material that is pretty soft up against the skin and moisture-wicking. Something that is definitely worth mentioning is that this jacket is pretty breathable for being totally waterproof and doesn’t feel like you are just wearing a trash bag. If you do happen to be in hot yet wet conditions, there are two huge pit zips that are great for airflow. It’s really nice to be able to have full waterproof protection yet still get some airflow through to your core.

There are a few points of adjustability to ensure you get a perfect fit every time you wear the Stow Away. The hood, while roomy, can be tightened down around your face to help keep the elements out. The visor can be shaped and there is an adjustment tab at the back of the hood to keep the hood out of your eyes. You can also cinch down the waist of the jacket, which will help keep the jacket in place.

I really wish that Klim offered a waterproof, easy to stow jacket for women riders however this seems to fit the bill just fine. While it is not the most flattering look, it is very functional which is important. I’m 5’10 and 150 pounds and usually a size 8 and I got the Men’s Medium. If I were just ordering this as a daily jacket, I would’ve gotten the small but I knew I needed some extra room for my moto gear.

One thing that did surprise me about the Stow Away Jacket is that it can kind of take a little bit of time and force to get the entire jacket into the stow pocket. I thought it would be easier but I guess nothing great in life is easy?

Overall I am so psyched to have a waterproof jacket that I can keep in my moto bag and be protected when I run into wet weather. If you’re a lady and you are looking for some warm weather riding gear, I would HIGHLY suggest the Women’s XC Lite kit by Klim. Hands down the best riding gear I’ve ever owned.
