After noticing a puddle of oil at the rear wheel on the cement where my truck was parked, it was evident that there was a leak. The leak was coming from the rear hub oil seal so I tore into it to replace the seal. With a little bit of time and some basic tools and knowledge, it’s fairly easy to replace the seal. Watch the video for a complete run through on how to replace the seal.
What you’ll need:
- Basic tools
- New Seal
- RTV Gasket Maker (Orange)
- Brake Clean or other supplies for cleaning surfaces
- Gear Oil (only a little bit)
After installing the new seal, I like to park on a slight hill for a few minutes to let oil run back into the hub. After driving for some time, make sure that the new seal is not leaking and periodically check for oil around the hub area.
