We wanted a rope that we could use for a wide range of climbing situations as well as one we could ice climb with in the winter and we got just that. The Energy 9.5mm Unicore Supereverdry by Edelweiss is a versatile rope that’s packed with features to keep you safe.
First of all, the Supereverdry by Edelweiss is ideal for ice climbing. The Supereverdry is a treatment that not only helps with water resistance but also abrasion resistance. With Supereverdry, each strand of the rope is treated rather than just a treatment around the exterior of the rope. I can’t speak to the longevity of the Energy Rope yet but with the Supereverdry treatment, I feel the overall life of the rope is extended. Edelweiss’ Supereverdry exceeds the UIAA Water Repellent standard.
Since we’re on the tech specifics that are built into the Energy 9.5 UC SE, the Unicore Technology is definitely worth mentioning. The Unicore in simple terms means that the sheath and the core are bonded. They are not separate and even if the sheath tears, they will not separate. This is essential for safety because with a traditional rope with a separate core and sheath, if it is cut the sheath can collect and make the rope impassable. If this situation arises closer to the end of the rope, the sheath could slide off entirely causing the climber to fall. With the Unicore process, even if the sheath is cut, since the sheath and core are bonded together the climber can at least exit off the rope safely.
We felt as though this rope broke in well, and quickly. It’s perfect for our warm-weather climbing adventures (lead and top-rope) as well as our ice climbing endeavors in the winter. I love the fact that the half-way point is marked, a surprisingly simple yet very beneficial feature. If you’re looking for a one-quiver rope, look no further than the Energy 9.5 by Edelweiss. If you’re interested in purchasing the Energy Rope, doing so using our provided link supports us as we get a small kickback from your purchase. We appreciate the support!
