[Review] The Country Mitt by Vermont Glove x Skida

The ultimate apres mitt consists of soft and supple, yet durable goat skin leather and a cozy sherpa lining. It’s called the Country Mitt by Vermont Glove and they teamed up with Skida to bring to life the lining.

Goat leather is perhaps my favorite leather for a few different reasons. First of all, it’s an extremely soft leather that isn’t stiff when you first put it on. It requires no break in period. Another benefit of goat leather is that no matter how many times you wet it and dry it, it won’t turn into a stiff and scratchy material like cow leather. Goat leather is also durable and sure to last for many years (unless you recklessly abuse them). Essentially, if you take care of these mitts, they’ll take care of you.

Something I recommend is coating these with a waterproof wax when you first pull them out of the box to ensure your hands will stay dry on even the wettest of days. For what you’re paying for these mitts, I wish they included a bit of wax for them.

The sherpa lining is a cozy surprise and will keep your hands feeling good even when the weather’s not. The sherpa used in these mitts is 100% recycled.

The cinch strap on the back of the hand is useful for keeping warmth on the inside of these mitts. It’s easy to use and brings a nice pop of color to the back of your hand. The most major downfall I’ve found using these mitts is that between the cinch and where your jacket is, there is a huge gap that allows for snow build-up. For that reason, I don’t wear these mitts skiing but they are the ultimate apres mitt. I wear them for dog walks all the time.

If you’re looking for an ideal winter mitt to keep your hands warm and comfortable, whether you’re heading out on snowy dog walks, heading out for errands, or collecting wood at the cabin, the Country Mitts by Vermont Glove in partnership with Skida are a great option.

*We received the Country Mitts for free in exchange for a review, however, it’s important to know that all thoughts are our own.

Pros

  • Soft and warm sherpa lining
  • Made with goatskin leather (one of my fave leathers)
  • No break-in period
  • Seams on the outside, comfy on the inside
  • Great around-town mitt

Cons

  • There is quite a gap on the back of the hand, allowing snow to build up
  • Wouldn't wear these skiing because of gap
  • A bit expensive for something I can't use skiing (though they will last a long time as an apres mitt)
