My new KTM came with a chain guide out of the factory but there’s no denying that when a manufacturer puts something like this on, it’s usually the bare minimum. I was happy to upgrade the stock chain guide to AXP’s Chain Guide and Swing Arm Guard on my 22’ KTM 300 XCW. AXP machines the Chain Guide and Swing Arm Guard out of polyethylene plastic which takes abuse, fits perfectly and looks good too.
Unlike the stock chain guide, AXP’s chain guide is a two-piece guide so you don’t have to break the chain to remove it. It’s an easy install (once you get the stock guide off) and offers ultimate protection especially once you add the swing arm guard. I personally love the option of the swing arm guard because at that point, all of your fixation points are covered. In all the rocky terrain we ride in, this is key for us.
If you’re going to get the Chain Guide from AXP, I would highly recommend adding the Swing Arm Guard with it as it’s going to offer more protection in a pretty high-wear area. With the polyethylene material, the weight you are adding is negligible in comparison to the protection these parts will offer. These two products also look nice and clean as well.
While you’re checking out AXP, be sure to read and watch our AXP Xtrem Skid Plate review. I’ve been really stoked on the AXP Skid Plate and it’s another great product that I’d recommend for the KTM 300. If you have any questions be sure to leave them below and we’ll get back to you.
