[Review] United by Blue Women’s Adventure Lifestyle Gear

United by Blue is not only killing it in the style department for women’s lifestyle and adventure gear category, they are also taking their philanthropy very seriously. While they are making stylish gear with sustainable and responsible materials, they’re also making their mark when it comes to the environment. For every one product sold, United by Blue removes one pound of trash from our oceans and waterways. That is a large commitment to make but United by Blue hasn’t had an issue upholding their commitment to the environment. Now you can look good while supporting a company that is working to remove trash (and you can even help them remove trash by meeting up with the team on their cleanups).

While it’s hard to comb the United by Blue Women’s clothing page and choose just one top, the Women’s Millport Relaxed Button Down is the perfect transitional piece when you need a long sleeve but not the weight of a flannel. I’m a huge plaid fan, so I love that I can carry on my plaid well after the winter is gone with this top. It’s relatively light but built with a double-cloth fabric. This is the top that you wear out on date night but then wear it the next morning for your daily hike. It’s a top that you could work hard in and play hard in but then wear it to a semi-formal gathering with your parents. You can dress it up or dress it down and give any outfit a little extra pop with the plaid.

Not only does the Millport top feel amazing up against the skin, it also fits really well. I ordered a medium and feel like that was a great choice. I’m 5’10 and 150lbs and I am usually between a medium and large for tops. The medium looks really great and is definitely not too tight (I wear a 34D Bra). The arms are even a perfect length which can be a huge problem for me, especially with button ups. The high-low shirttail hem is extremely flattering and if you needed to tuck this top in, it would stay tucked in for the day.

The Millport Relaxed Button down pairs perfectly with my Westray Shorts, which are ideal for summer days at the lake, boating adventures, and traveling among many other things. The 3” inseam is the perfect length that’s not too revealing yet short enough to get a decent tan. If you have bigger thighs like myself, you’ll be happy that these are long enough to prevent chaffing in your thigh gap that’s not really a gap.

The elastic waist plus drawstring combination ensures a comfortable fit that you can get dialed in so if you decide to jump into the lake, your shorts won’t fall off when they get wet. I am usually a size 8-10 in pants and decided to go with the large in these. I am glad I did, as I think the medium would’ve been a bit too tight in the thigh region. The waist is a little big but nothing that can’t be fixed with the drawstring!

Perhaps my favorite thing about the Westray shorts is the fabric. These don’t at all look like “board shorts” but they function when you find yourself in wet scenarios. The fabric is a water resistant poly, cotton, cation, and spandex blend which is surprisingly soft and nothing like the “board shorts” I used to wear as a kid when it was the cool thing to do (like did anyone else go through this phase? I mean, I would wear them to school. Weird). While the fabric feels nice up against the skin, these shorts are also going to dry quickly if you find yourself taking a dip in the river before heading into town to meet your girlfriends for brunch.

When I think about summer adventures and traveling, these shorts come to mind as the ideal shorts to travel with. Most likely if you’re vacationing somewhere warm I would hope that you’d find yourself around water often so you can stay cool. These are perfect to throw in your suitcase because you can wear them for any adventures and know that if they happen to get wet, they won’t stay wet for the rest of your trip.

I think the one thing that I don’t love about these shorts is that sometimes when I walk they give me a bit of a wedgie. That totally could be because of my body shape/style but I did notice fidgeting with them a lot when I was on longer hikes.

If you’re looking for a super stylish and affordable pair of shorts to head out with you on any summer adventures, look no further than the Westray Shorts by United by Blue.
