I recently completed my P2 with Superfly Paragliding over in Draper, Utah. One thing that I wasn’t quite prepared for was making the choice on what gear I was going to invest in. I liked what I had used to train in, but making the actual choice proved to be pretty hard. I was lucky enough to try and hang in several different harnesses, by several different brands which ultimately led me to the Gingo 4 by Gin. It was the most comfortable harness that I tried and it fits me really well. Once I settled on the Gingo, I then had to choose between the Verso and the Gingo because they both felt very similar but had a few differences.
I was very intrigued by the fact that the Verso is a reversible harness, but ultimately decided that that feature was pretty irrelevant for what I’m doing these days. The Verso weighs 3.9 kg whereas the Gingo weighs 3.5 kg. The Verso has air back protection, the Gingo padded back protection. The Gingo compresses down surprisingly small and I feel more confident with the padded back protection. I settled on the Gingo and knew I made the right choice.
The best thing to do to find the right full-feature harness is to try as many as you can. Head to your local shop and hang in the harnesses they have available. If you don’t have that option, reach out to Superfly. They will ship you different harnesses to try and you can just keep what fits and feels the best. For me, it was important that the harness is equally as comfortable kiting as flying. I found that in the Gingo. If I’m uncomfortable, I’m not having fun so I had to be sure I made the right choice.
My first paragliding kit consists of the Gin Gingo 4 Harness and the Gin Calypso Glider. My harness is comfortable, instills confidence, and will be with me for many years. The Calypso glider is another piece I invested in that I know will grow with me. I won’t outgrow it in a short time, so there’s longevity in my investment.
