With our plans of traveling out of the country and off-road with our KTM 790 and 890, the combination of the Fuel Line Conversion Kit and the Fuel Pump Guard by Rottweiler Performance were two must-have upgrades for us.
The Fuel Line Conversion Kit is key for a couple of different reasons. First of all, we opted to add the Golan Fuel Filter with a 10 micron filter element (adds $65) added into the line. This is key, especially if you plan on heading somewhere like Mexico or Central America where sometimes you are pulling fuel out of a 55-gallon drum that’s maybe been around the block. This adds one more step towards ensuring you catch any contaminants before they make their way into your injectors. This conversion kit also makes tank removal easier and quicker. More importantly, it eliminates having to use the stock connection. The stock tank connection point is definitely something that would be easy to break and you know it would happen when you’re out in the middle of nowhere. It’s a pretty chintzy connection and we’ve also heard of folks losing the tabs that hold it in place, which means they can’t secure the fuel line. For $90, the peace of mind is worth this upgrade. It’s easy to install and ensures that you won’t have fuel line connection issues down the road. As expected, it’s made with high-quality materials and has a protective sheathing that prevents chafing and overheating.
The Fuel Pump Guard protects the vulnerable stock fuel pump. When you look at the stock fuel pump, you realize that it’s not in the most ideal location. Even a proficient rider could hit a rock just right and damage the fuel pump. It’s low and not protected well from the plastic tank guards that come with the 790/890. Rottweiler’s Fuel Pump Guard again gives you peace of mind when you’re in rough terrain. The install of the Fuel Pump Guard is also easy and takes very little time. You simply remove the bolts that are on the stock guard, add this guard, and then replace them with the Rottweiler provided bolts. We also opted for the Billet Fuel Spigot. The less delicate plastic parts the better. Once again, this is an affordable upgrade that will prevent major damage to your fuel system (less than $110 with the spigot upgrade).
We really have to appreciate Rottweiler for developing all of this gear that will, in the long run, save us a ton of money.
