This isn’t your typical puffy jacket. The Newton Jacket by Orage is stylish, warm, affordable, and versatile. I think the most distinct visual about the Newton Jacket is that unlike 99% of down jackets, the baffles are not straight and skinny across the jacket. They are jagged and uneven, almost replicating the mountain ranges that we are so fond of playing in. This unique design and the fact that the Newton is very warm has made this my go-to jacket this winter.
Although I think the Newton really shines in it’s role of being a lifestyle piece, you could easily throw this on under your shell for a cold day of skiing. It compresses well and isn’t overly bulky, making it a great layering option especially if you don’t want to have multiple jackets for your winter season.
Orage considers this “lightweight warmth” which in my mind associates jackets with not being warm if they’re truly lightweight. Even though the Newton is lightweight, I think it packs a heavy punch with how warm it is. You don’t have to give up weight for warmth with this jacket and to me that is a huge benefit.
I like the color ways offered for the Newton jacket but if you’re not a fan of color, the jacket is reversible! If you’re feeling down in the dumps simply turn the Newton inside out and you’ll have a very basic and simple grey jacket.
480 fill power grey duck down insulation keeps you warm while an Eco-DWR treatment protects you from the elements. While I wouldn’t want to wear the Newton Jacket in a downpour, if I’m out and it starts snowing or flurrying, I will stay dry.
Overall, if you’re looking for a simple yet unique insulation layer or around-town jacket, I would highly recommend the Orage Newton Jacket. You’ll catch attention with the mountain range shaped down baffles and you’ll stay nice and toasty no matter the temps. Be sure to check out Orage for all of your winter needs including incredible outer layers for skiing, base layers, and lifestyle pieces to keep you looking good no matter what’s going on with the weather outside.
