After we purchased our 2010 Ford Great West Van, we knew we wanted an upgrade so it would run optimally while towing a trailer, especially up mountain passes in the west and down and back up the Baja Peninsula. To say we were impressed with the custom tune from 5 Star Tuning would be an understatement. To ensure I could properly compare the van with and without the tune, we put about 3,000 miles on the van pre-tune. I loaded the tune on the van after those 3,000 miles at a gas station in the PNW. Pulling out of the gas pump, I could instantly feel a noticeable improvement.
With 5 Star’s 87 Tow Tune, the van was no longer sluggish especially pulling mountain passes. It truly felt like a different vehicle in this regard. The tune also changed the shift points which made it feel right. Prior to loading the tune, I felt as though the shift points were off. The tune quickly took care of that frustration.
The van consistently got better fuel mileage with the tune loaded. For us, it was probably a bit of wash because it’s an 87 Octane Fuel tune. In Colorado, we have 85 octane available. Some states don’t, so in that case, it would be a savings. In our case, we were getting better fuel mileage but paying more for 87, so like I said a wash. With that said, even if it cost a little more to run the van with this tune on, it would be very worth it because of the previously mentioned benefits.
If you feel like your vehicle is lacking a little bit of power and seems sluggish, be sure to check out 5 Star Tuning. The process of getting the tune loaded on the vehicle is seamless and easy and their customer service has been great. 5 Star Tuning offers custom tunes for a variety of vehicles and if you’re driving a van that is likely heavy as it is, and on top of that towing, you will be impressed with the improvements brought forth by a tune.
