[Review] 3DF Hybrid EXT Knee & Shin Guards by Leatt

I have been on the search for knee and shin protection while moto riding for several years now and it has finally come to an end! This spring, I’ve been wearing Leatt’s 3DF Hybrid EXT Knee and Shin Guards and I couldn’t be happier both in terms of comfort and protection. Appropriately named, these guards are a hybrid of hard plastic protection on the shin and soft 3DF protection for the knee.

To start with, 3DF foam hardens on impact so while it doesn’t seem as burley as hard plastic protection, when you hit it does its job. The added benefit? These guards are extremely comfortable while riding. They’re also not bulky at all and after I broke them in, I was able to pretty much forget they were there.

The hard plastic shin protection will protect your shin from any hits you may take but is also slim and easy to fit inside your boot. I’ve never felt like I haven’t had protection in a certain area and any falls I’ve taken while wearing these guards I’ve been fully protected.

I really dig the idea of the hybrid design because I feel like you’re getting the best of both worlds in a compact, comfortable package. Cally is already super jealous of these and she’s ready to toss her vintage, all-plastic knee and shin guards.

Up against the skin, Leatt is using MoistureCool and AirMesh wicking fabrics that help keep you a bit cooler on those sweaty days. I feel like no matter what, your knee and shin guards are going to obviously make you a bit hotter than if you weren’t wearing any, but it kind of comes with the sport. I do feel like the 3DF Hybrids have pretty decent airflow and the fabric is nice against your skin and works to wick the moisture away.

I used Leatt’s size chart when ordering these guards and feel like the fit is true to size. I have pretty large quads, so finding shin and knee guards that fit comfortably can be tough. There were a couple of days of break-in with these guards so keep that in mind. Unlike my other guards, when these were broken in, they were good to go. I’ve had guards where the hardwear continues to push into my bones and make for a very unpleasant experience. These feel like clouds compared to that!

If you’re looking for ultimate comfort and protection, I highly recommend the 3DF Hybrid Knee and Shin Guards by Leatt. They will protect you when and where you need it most but will keep you feeling comfortable all day long. Head over to Leatt.com for all of your protection needs. Cally has the full-body 3DF Airfit Protector and swears by it (she falls a lot too).
